MAX BRAND Ensemble - under the direction of JAM Vice-Rector Richard Graf at Porgy & Bess

The MAX BRAND Ensemble, under the direction of Richard Graf, invites you to an extraordinary concert evening entitled ‘Zeitenwende’. Known for its love of experimentation and unique fusion of contemporary music, jazz, alternative sounds and ethnic influences, the ensemble once again promises a musical experience of a special kind.

In ‘Zeitenwende’, the ensemble takes up controversial topics of our time - from climate change and the rapid development of artificial intelligence to global conflicts - and processes them in a musical journey that goes far beyond traditional boundaries. State-of-the-art composition techniques are combined with artificial intelligence and the different styles are interwoven to create a new universe of sound.

Richard Graf, the artistic mind behind the project, describes the programme as a reflection of our times: ‘With this concert, we want to bring both well-known and up-and-coming composers to the fore and at the same time address the pressing issues of our world. Music can comment, scrutinise and open up new perspectives - and that's exactly what we want to achieve with the MAX BRAND Ensemble.’

You can hear compositions by:

Viola Falb, Richard Graf, Johannes Kretz, Joe Pinkl and Verena Zeiner
