Ö1 Jazz Scholar Alan Bartus nominated for the Austrian Jazz Prize!
At just 21 years old, Alan Bartus already embodies the qualities of a mature jazz artist on the New York scene. Melodic invention? Check. Harmonic imagination? Check. Rhythmic mastery, swing, and emotional depth? He’s got it all. Deeply rooted in the acoustic jazz tradition, Alan shows respect for the past while daring to break the rules and explore new horizons. As the son of a passionate modern jazz bassist, he combines natural talent with relentless hard work. His latest recording is just the first of many to come, documenting an exciting new voice in jazz.
Alan Bartus has achieved remarkable milestones in his budding jazz career. He was awarded the Excellence Piano Award in 2021 and received the Ö1 Austrian Jazz Prize in 2022. His talents were further recognized in 2023 when he won 1st Prize at both the ARTEDEA Competition and the International Piano Competition in Langnau, Switzerland. Additionally, he was a semifinalist in the prestigious Herbie Hancock International Piano Competition in 2023. Bartus is also the recipient of the Dave Brubeck Living Legacy Scholarship for 2024 in the USA.
Throughout his journey, he has collaborated with esteemed musicians, including the Lukas Oravec Quartet featuring Jerry Bergonzi and Klemens Marktl with Tim Armacost. Notably, he participated in a Jam Music Lab Recordingfeaturing Peter Erskine.
As a bandleader, he leads the project Alan Bartus B. in Millennium featuring Gregory Hutchinson. Looking ahead, he is set to perform with the Alan Bartus Trio, featuring renowned drummers Jeff "Tain" Watts and Robert Hurst, on September 22 at Lincoln Center in New York City.
Since 2023, Alan has been pursuing his studies at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music, New York, USA.
