Kick-Off Event for the Opening of the Center for Artistic Research
The Center for Artistic Research under the direction of Michael Kahr is a new research institution at the JMLU, at which the previous development work in the field of artistic research in jazz and popular music is consistently continued and institutionally anchored. The research institution is equipped with start-up funding from the City of Vienna, which will enable additional research staff and international expertise to be tied to the JMLU for project development.
Artistic Research at the JMLU is closely linked to the activities of the International Network for Artistic Research in Jazz (https://artisticjazzresearch.com). The project "Doing Thinking in Jazz: The Infinite Art of Preparing for Improvisation" is currently being carried out by a group of experienced international researchers from the network and in cooperation with the Gustav Mahler Private University of Music in Klagenfurt. The project participants represent the high degree of diversity, internationality and professionalism in the field of artistic research in jazz.
The kick-off event serves to formally open and make visible the Center for Artistic Research at the JMLU and will be documented accordingly in the media. In addition to information on the orientation of the research institution, speeches and short performative interventions will provide an insight into the current fields of work of some of the project participants.
